2007 Recap

I created this blog in Nov 2006 after reading bellanaija.blogspot.com for several months and being enchanted by it. But I didn't take it seriously until March 2007 when Mrs Somebody, Calabargal and a few other bloggers took it upon themselves to advertise my blog to drive traffic to it. I'm grateful to you guys.

I know some people think I take this blog too seriously, considering I don't get paid for it. The thing is, I take everything I do seriously. And I'm glad I take this blog seriously because it's been worth it.

There are so many other things I have gained from blogging that money can't buy. Like friendship, like love, like meeting people like Tayo, Chidi, Jumoke, Chude, CWB, TJ, especially Olu and so many others. And knowing people like Wienna, Mimi, Kpakpando, Tonipayne, Bobby, Shola Pacheco, Naijagal, Bellanaija, and every single person on blogsville (Bloggers and readers of blogs). Would I have ever met you guys if I hadn't started blogging? I have no regrets.

I've blogged about everything from sex, marriage, love, gossip, scandals, my own struggles as a young enterprenuer and a single woman, and everything fun, annoying, sad, unhappy and different. Thanks for tolerating all my craziness, encouraging my good sense, sharing experiences with over 2, 000 readers of this blog, and for taking time to drop comments.

All in all, thanks for being with me all through the year.

I thank God for giving me the wisdom to start this blog, Bella Naija for being the inspiration and you guys for the encouragement. Whether you love me or not, your comments, whether positive or negative have somehow made me more knowledgable about life and made me a better person.

I also hope this blog has touched your lives in the most positive way.

Here's a recap of some of the things we have experienced on this blog.

Enjoy!

Father Patrick + Soyinka on Ribadu's removal

I am Catholic and whenever I read anything negative about our Catholic priests, it does something to me.

Here's a story, courtesy Sunnewsonline, about a Priest, a woman, an illicit affair and an abortion.

Wearied by the papal oath of celibacy, which insists on strict abstinence from sex and marriage, a Catholic priest, Reverend Father Patrick Okon, who allegedly yielded to things of the flesh, has found himself trapped in the whirlpool of an abortion-related web. With the wind now taken out of the sail of his six months of sizzling romance with one Miss. Ebere Eze, who is still battling to overcome abortion complications she alleged was instigated by the priest, Father Okon is now torn between renouncing the vow he entered into with the Papacy with a view to getting his lover permanently hooked and doing all he can to keep the liaison a guided secret.

Begun somewhere at Agege, Lagos, in December 2006, Ebere told Saturday Sun that she met Father Okon at Tasty Fried Chicken (TFC) where the priest initially introduced himself as a lawyer on an attachment with Saint Kizito Catholic Church, Iju, Agege, Lagos.

From one declaration to another, Father Okon, allegedly swore his immortal love for Ebere, which culminated in the promise of marriage and an exchange of engagement ring between Ebere and the Reverend Father.

During the flourishing period of their liaison, which peaked when Father Okon relocated to Saints Peter and Paul, Somolu, a parish, the stealthy romance, which transpired without the parish priest’s knowledge according to Ebere, usually involved her being smuggled in with the assistance of the security man at the gate. While this practice of sneaking her into the Priory endured, Ebere said she could not understand why this was so, even as Okon had consistently said he was a lawyer and not a worker in the Lord’s vineyard. At Saints Peter and Paul’s, Somolu, where she eventually found out that Okon was indeed a priest, contrary to his previous claim, sometime in April, Ebere said she was already pregnant for him.

Her refusal to yield ground for fear of risking her life, Ebere said, dangerously pitched her against Okon. But desperate to ensure that the looming scandal did not morph into an institutional humiliation, following a series of failed persuasions from the priest on his lover girl, Ebere told Saturday Sun that Okon tricked her into going out for ride with him in June 2007. And at a spot along Lagos-Ibadan expressway, just after the crusade ground, Okon, in a BMW 3 Series, pulled up at a joint, where he ordered drinks (a Star lager beer for himself and a small bottle of Guinness Stout for Ebere) for both of them.

Among other reasons the priest advanced for insisting on the termination of the pregnancy, Ebere alleged, was the cost of bringing up a child. According to her, just as she was about to take her drink, it was then the priest remembered he forgot something in the car and asked her to go get it for him.

Unsuspectingly, she returned to take her drink, which she also alleged might have been laced with poison.

Ebere further alleged that after the drink, she could neither remember how she made it back with Father Okon to the Reverend fathers’ house at Saint Peter and Paul, Somolu nor how her under wear got soaked with blood. She disclosed that she woke up at about 5:pm, after several hours of unconsciousness to find herself protected with sanitary towel heavily flooded with her own blood. Terribly weak to go back to Oshodi, where she lives with her brother, and not knowing what to tell him was responsible for her profuse bleeding, Ebere said she spent two nights in Okon’s apartment.

Devastated by what she alleged Father Okon had done to her, by discretely administering an abortion on her, Ebere said she threatened to let the world know what he had done to her. According to her, since the development, she has been experiencing an erratic menstrual flow, sometimes twice in a month or once in two months, coupled with loss of weight.

Some of the texts purportedly sent to Ebere and which she forwarded to this reporter, are reproduced below:
“Ebere, it is Appiah and Fabian that paid you to betray me and you did it. How much did they give you? Can you see the prove (sic) of the love you had for me? You told me the other time you did not have the Cardinal’s number, where did you get this from? All I want is peace, once more, I am sorry for the pain I caused you”.

“Let us meet and talk. Friends do have misunderstanding. I am in love with you. Don’t let anyone separate us. When can we see? I am sorry for hurting you”.

“I left the Church (Saint Peter and Paul) since June. I work in a school (Missionary Society of Saint Paul, Iperu-Remo, Ogun State). So you have to arrange for another place where we can meet during the week”.

“Come to Sagamu. I am at RSS Sagamu. When you get to the park, I will pick you up”.

“Eby, if it is marriage you want, let us meet and talk. I may leave my job before end of the year”.

“Have you ever offended God and asked Him to forgive you? That is what I am asking of you. I may leave my ministry soon and I need you with me”.

“Please don’t sleep with anybody. I can’t cope without you. Please forgive. I will start taking good care of you please”.

And so on and so forth.

Soyinka on Ribadu's removal
Howmany of you know that Mallam Nuhu Ribadu has been removed as the chairman of the Economic and Financial crimes Commission (EFCC)?

That's sad huh? People have been reacting to it, describing it as a contemptuous New Year gift, that constitutes an assault on the corporate integrity of the nation.

The person most pained is Professor Wole Soyinka. In a press statement yesterday, Soyinka said Ribadu’s removal would have a far more devastating impact on the psyche of the Nigerian nation “than the deadly event that now threatens to destabilize Pakistan,” through the assassination of her democratic front runner, Benazir Bhutto.

Soyinka said the precarious socio-political condition into which the Pakistani people have been thrown, echoed, in both parallel and divergent directions, the blow dealt to the Nigerian nation by the “assassination” of the head of the EFCC.

The Nobel Laureate said Ribadu had commenced “the process of restoring dignity to a people whose nation has become a byword for the most breath-taking scam in high-places, for endemic corruption, contempt for accountability and transparency and the abuse of national resources in the pursuit of personal and party power consolidation.”With the removal of Ribadu, he said the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had proven yet again that there is no reformist agenda possible within its ranks.

Also, Lagos lawyer and human rights activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi said with the removal of Ribadu, the government has subverted the anti-corruption crusade embarked upon by the EFCC under the outstanding leadership of Ribadu.

What's your view on Ribadu's removal?

How's everyone doing? Having a great time?

I'm having a great time...working...boring huh?

I'm spending Christmas with colleagues, holed up in Vera's flat on the Island, (She's either in the UK, Dubai or SA...she travels a lot) working on our 2008 projects.

So what's been happening around the world since Christmas?

Let's check it out together...

Death on Christmas day
On Christmas day, Tuesday 25th 2007, about Forty-two residents of Ikate, Iru Local Council of Lagos State, were burnt to death in a petroleum pipeline fire. The victims of the pipeline explosion, which occurred at Ilagbo Village, a riverine community near Ibagbo-Iru, Victoria Island, Lagos, whose corpses were burnt beyond recognition, have been buried in mass graves near a site close to the scene of the disaster. Most of the victims were said to be women and children. Over 3,000 pieces of 50-litre jerry cans used by the victims to scoop fuel from the scene were recovered. The jerry cans were already filled with petroleum products.

Raz B of B2k is accusing his manager, Chris Stokes, and friend, Marquis Houston of sexual molestation. He put out a Youtube video accusing the two of not only molesting him, but also other members of B2k.

Omarion had this to say about the accusation “I want to be on the record as saying that “Raz B” Thorton and Ricardo Thorton are lying regarding Chris Stokes. Chris is a father figure to myself, and many others in the industry. He’s guided us, helped raised us and is nothing more than an inspiration and someone I respect to and look up to. I have spent countless hours, days, weeks and months with the man since the age of 5 and have never once seen him behave inappropriately. He’s married to my aunt and I know this man very well. I stand behind him with no question whatsoever,”
The things that happen behind closed doors...

A financial dispute might have led to the Christmas Eve slayings of six members of the same family, including two children, whose bodies were found Wednesday inside a rural home near Carnation.
The possible motive emerged late Wednesday after the arrest of 29-year-old Michele Kristen Anderson and her boyfriend, Joseph McEnroe, in connection with the fatal shootings of Anderson's parents, her brother and his wife and the couple's two children, a 6-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy. Investigators believe Anderson and McEnroe both shot the victims, said one law-enforcement source familiar with the investigation.

I know 2008 will be beautiful...

Something happened today to reinstate my faith in that

Hope y'all are having a beautiful time?

World's first Christmas card
This is the card that is believed to be the first Christmas card...mass produced about 160 years ago. I, 000 was produced, only 10 copies remain today...at the Bridwell Library at Southern Methodist University's Perkins School of Theology.

"A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to You" was printed on the first Christmas card.

And it's been the tradition since then...

What I will say is this...
~May Peace be your gift at Christmas and your blessing all year through~

~Christmas is forever, not for just one day, for loving, sharing, giving, are not to put away like bells and lights and tinsel, in some box upon a shelf. The good you do for others is good you do yourself...~

Inspiring cartoons to make your Christmas even more beautiful

To every reader of this blog, I wish you the very best Christmas ever!

May all your dreams, aspirations and wishes for the new year, come true!

I'm going to leave you with something beautiful to look at...

See y'all after Christmas
Kisses!

I was going to give Naija Entertainment gist today, but...

I have no excuse...

I'll get it to you tomorrow

Meanwhile enjoy...

Tree Man
An Indonesian fisherman who feared that he would be killed by tree-like growths covering his body has been given hope of recovery by an American doctor - and Vitamin A.

Dede, now 35, baffled medical experts when warty "roots" began growing out of his arms and feet after he cut his knee in a teenage accident.

The welts spread across his body unchecked and soon he was left unable to carry out everyday household tasks.

Sacked from his job and deserted by his wife, Dede has been raising his two children - now in their late teens - in poverty, resigned to the fact that local doctors had no cure for his condition.

To make ends meet he even joined a local "freak show", parading in front of a paying audience alongside victims of other peculiar diseases.

Although supported by his extended family, he was often a target of abuse and ridicule in his rural fishing village.

But now an American dermatology expert who flew out to Dede's home village south of the capital Jakarta claims to have identified his condition, and proposed a treatment that could transform his life.

After testing samples of the lesions and Dede's blood, Dr Anthony Gaspari of the University of Maryland concluded that his affliction is caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), a fairly common infection that usually causes small warts to develop on sufferers.

Dede's problem is that he has a rare genetic fault that impedes his immune system, meaning his body is unable to contain the warts.

The virus was therefore able to "hijack the cellular machinery of his skin cells", ordering them to produce massive amounts of the substance that caused the tree-like growths known as "cutaneous horns" on his hands and feet.

Dede's counts of a key type of white blood cell are so low that Dr Gaspari initially suspected he may have the Aids virus.

But tests showed he did not, and it became clear that Dede's immune condition was something far rarer and more mysterious.

Warts aside, he had enjoyed remarkable good health throughout his life - which would not be expected of someone with a suppressed immune system - and neither his parents nor his siblings have shown signs of developing lesions.

"The likelihood of having his deficiency is less than one in a million," Dr Gaspari told the Telegraph.

Dr Gaspari, who became involved in the case through a Discovery Channel documentary, believes that Dede's condition can be largely cleared up by a daily doses of a synthetic form of Vitamin A, which has been shown to arrest the growth of warts in severe cases of HPV.

"He won't have a perfectly normal body but the warts should reduce in size to the point where he could use his hands," Dr Gaspari said.

"Over the course of three to six months the warts should be come smaller and fewer in number. He will be living a more normal life."

The most resilient warts could then be frozen off and the growths on his hands and feet surgically removed.

Dr Gaspari hopes to get the necessary drugs free of charge from pharmaceutical firms. They would then be administered by Indonesian doctors under his supervision.

Still intrigued by the origins of Dede's peculiar immune condition, the doctor would like to fly him to the United States for further examination, but fears the financial and bureaucratic barriers would prove too difficult to overcome.

"I would like to bring him to the US to run tests on where his immune condition has come from, but I would need funding and to get him a visa as well as someone to cover the costs of the tests," he said.

"I've never seen anything like this in my entire career."

How to celebrate xmas
Christmas has become a very commercial holiday. Rushing around to buy presents, people tend to forget the true meaning of Chistmas. Aside from big dinners and expensive gifts, there are other ways to celebrate that reflect the true meaning of the holiday, and give the gifts to the One whose birthday it is!

Steps
*Reflect on the reason for Christmas by doing some research. In the Bible, you can find the Christmas story in the book of Luke, Chapters 1 and 2.

*Choose some activities that you and your friends or family will enjoy which fit with the meaning of Christmas and are also socially enjoyable. Consider preparing some special foods for the poor and needy, as well as giving gifts to people you know. Learn some of the non-commercialized Christmas songs.

*Spend time with others to celebrate.

*Spend time quietly being thankful for the gift of Jesus to the world that we celebrate on Christmas.

*Invite God to come and celebrate the day with you.

Tips
Remember your Christmas may not have white snow-topped trees, or a huge pile of presents, or a wonderful choir singing Christmas carols, but your Christmas celebration and thankfulness is all that is required to properly celebrate. Anything more is a bonus.

Ok ok ok, I will most definitely change the cover of the magazine. They say the voice of the people is the voice of God. If most of you don't like the cover, then it must not be good! I really appreciate your sincerity.

I've always had my reservations but everyone at work seemed to like it.

I have this very Voque-like photo of another top model...I'll let y'all see it soon.

Meanwhile, I was robbed at Eko bridge yesterday morning. Robbed of N200. Please laugh abeg!

I couldn't stop laughing. Who laughs after a robbery? Cheap ass robbers!

I was driving with my windows down (Not very wise), in traffic and these three guys came from nowhere demanding that I 'find them something'. The traffic was almost at a standstill, couldn't move left or right.

Fortunately, I had N200 in my hands. I'd wanted to use the money to a buy a can coke from those street hawkers before the boys came to say hi to me...hahaha.

So I gave them the N200...

But there was a problem. My phone was tucked between my laps and one of the guys had spotted it and made to grab it after I'd given them the money...

Take my Nokia N95? Lailai. I grabbed his hand and started screaming like my life depended on it. My screams must have scared them 'cos they all scampered off.

Despite it all, Nigeria is still a beautiful country.

The Dynamix Awards was yesterday. It was beautiful. A lot of A list Naija celebs were in the house...

Only two things I didn't like about it.
1. They had 5pm on their IV's as start off time, but the show didn't start till 10pm. Not nice!
2. There was a gatefee of 5grand. Which I don't understand, since it was an award ceremony not a concert

Anyway, all in all, it was cool!

Britney Spear's 16 year old sister, Lynn Spears, is pregnant. At 16? I don't even know what to say to that!

Is this what happened to Michael Jackson?

“I’m a black man turning white on television and people can see it,” says Thomas, an anchor and entertainment reporter for the local Fox Broadcasting Company affiliate. “If you’ve watched me over the years, you’ve seen my hands completely change from brown to white.”

Thomas has vitiligo, a disorder in which pigment-making cells are destroyed. White patches appear on different parts of the body, tissues in the mouth and nose, and the retina.

“There is no cause. There is no cure, and it’s very random,” Thomas says. “I could turn all the way white or mostly white.” As many as 65 million people worldwide have the disorder, including up to 2 million in the United States.

This is an eye opener!

Ricardo Kaka is world footballer of the year 2007. He was crowned just last night, Mon 17th Dec. While Christiano Ronaldo came in a close second and Merci, third!

Nice choice you would say hmmm?

Meanwhile here's what the 3rd edition of the mag will kinda look like...

What do you guys think of this cover? It's absolutely not what the end result will look like. This is something we did in the office ourselves. We haven't gotten a professional graphic person to look at it yet.

We just wanted to see what it will kind of look like...

But this is the photo we intend to use (It hasn't been worked on)...and the cover stories!

She and I did the photo session same day...we had her in regular clothes (Clothed by Collectibles boutique), but everyone at work kinda preferred this pic...

Anyone like?

She's one of the wave making models right now in Naija. Hot on the runway. I want to use the magazine to promote modeling and models in Nigeria. So for now, no celeb is gracing the cover...maybe later!

So what do you guys think?

What do you think of this pix of me? Hilarious abi?

People seem to like it. I find it...hilarious! 'Sharia woman' wanna-be! lol!

Meanwhile, here is the flyer we did for Top Model Search

I totally don't like this photograph. But the director picked it 'cos he thinks that's the only pic that has a message. Something like 'From me to you!'

Whatever! lol!

Well, I indulged him but this is definitely not what I'm using for the handbills and posters. We made this into cards to present to potential sponsors.

I'm going all out in the picture for the real campaign.

You know 'The more you look, the less you see' kinda photograph.

What do you think?

When the real pictures and posters are out, I'll let y'all see it!

If there's anyone interested in this idea, get in touch with me.

Meanwhile, the Dynamix award is tomorrow. I'll be there 'cos I'm co-ordinating the Collectibles fashion show at the event. Tried to get out of it, but got boxed in. I'll see if there's any gist I can get from that event...

The Dynamix Award is an Award for students all over Nigeria...I wonder why the organiser, Tunde, wasn't nominated for Future Awards...he sure is a very hard working young man.

Anyway, hope everyone is alright? Life is treating you good? Happy? No break-ups? No heartbreaks? Making plans for a wonderful xmas? Remember to say your prayers?

Disappointed?

It's around this time of the year we start to count our blessings and losses. What did we achieve in 2007 we wonder? We start to compare ourselves to the person next to us...

But that's not necessary, because after all said and done, what matters most of all, is happiness and peace of mind!

So don't worry, if 2007 wasn't so great, 2008 will be beautiful! Life is about to get even better for us all! 2008 is our year! You just watch!

See you all later.

kisses!

Abraham Lincoln and John F Kennedy
Is there some connection between Abe Lincoln & Jack Kennedy (apart from the fact that both were assasinated)?

Here are some co-incidences between both Presidents:

1. Both of them were assasinated while in office
2.Abe's killer John Wilkis Booth was 1839 born, Oswald (Kennedy's so-called killer) was born in 1939
3. Abe's successor's last name was Johnson (is it Andrew), born in 1808, Jack's was also Johnson (LBJ), born in 1908
4. Abe's secretary's last name was Kennedy, while Jack's was Lincoln (Evelyn)

5. Abe was killed in a theater, and Booth ran and hid himself in a book dipositry, while Oswald ran from a book diopsitry and was captured from a theater.
6. One week before his assassination, Jack was with Marilyn Monroe, while a week before his assaassination, Abe was in Monroe, Maryland.
7. Lincoln was elected in 1860. Kennedy was elected in 1960.
8. Both of their respective assassins were killed before they were brought to justice.

9. Both presidents had seven letters in their last name.

11. Both had lazy eye muscles, which would sometimes cause one eye to deviate.

12. Both suffered from genetic diseases. It is suspected that Lincoln had Marfan syndrome, and Kennedy suffered from Addison's disease.
13. Both served in the military. Lincoln was a scout captain in the Black Hawk War, and Kennedy served as a navy lieutenant in World War II. Both were boat captains. Lincoln was a skipper for the Talisman, a Mississippi River boat, and Kennedy was skipper of the PT 109.
14. Both had no fear of their mortality and disdained bodyguards.

15. Both often stated how easy it would be to shoot a President. Lincoln supposedly said, "If somebody wants to take my life, there is nothing I can do to prevent it." Kennedy supposedly said, "If somebody wants to shoot me from a window with a rifle, nobody can stop it."
16. Both received many letters threatening their lives. In the year of his death, Lincoln received over 800 such letters, and in the year of his death, Kennedy received over 80 letters of this type.

81. Both Johnsons entered the presidency in their mid-fifties.

82. Both Johnsons had urethral stones, the only presidents to have them.

84. Both Johnsons chose not to run for reelection in '68.

85. Investigations for conspiracy were conducted for both presidential assassinations.

86. Autopsies were done on both assassins to clarify identity.

87. Formal investigations were conducted after each presidential death.

88. In each case, after a number of years, the investigation was reported without really resolving who was involved in the conspiracy.
Could all this be pure coincidence or is there more to it?

Freaky right?
