But a new paper in the journal Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research suggests that - for reasons that aren't entirely clear - abstaining from alcohol does actually tend to increase one's risk of dying even when you exclude former drinkers. The most shocking part? Abstainers' mortality rates are higher than those of heavy drinkers.
What kind of 'study' finds that heavy drinkers outlive non drinkers? These researchers have fall my hand o...:-)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Moderate drinking, which is defined as one to three drinks per day, is associated with the lowest mortality rates in alcohol studies. Moderate alcohol use (especially when the beverage of choice is red wine) is thought to improve heart health, circulation and sociability, which can be important because people who are isolated don't have as many family members and friends who can notice and help treat health problems.
But why would abstaining from alcohol lead to a shorter life? It's true that those who abstain from alcohol tend to be from lower socioeconomic classes, since drinking can be expensive. And people of lower socioeconomic status have more life stressors - job and child-care worries that might not only keep them from the bottle but also cause stress-related illnesses over long periods. (They also don't get the stress-reducing benefits of a drink or two after work.)
But even after controlling for nearly all imaginable variables - socioeconomic status, level of physical activity, number of close friends, quality of social support and so on - the researchers (a six-member team led by psychologist Charles Holahan of the University of Texas at Austin) found that over a 20-year period, mortality rates were highest for those who had never been drinkers, second-highest for heavy drinkers and lowest for moderate drinkers.
The sample of those who were studied included individuals between ages 55 and 65 who had had any kind of outpatient care in the previous three years. The 1,824 participants were followed for 20 years. One drawback of the sample: a disproportionate number, 63%, were men. Just over 69% of the never-drinkers died during the 20 years, 60% of the heavy drinkers died and only 41% of moderate drinkers died.
These are remarkable statistics. Even though heavy drinking is associated with higher risk for cirrhosis and several types of cancer (particularly cancers in the mouth and esophagus), heavy drinkers are less likely to die than people who have never drunk. One important reason is that alcohol lubricates so many social interactions, and social interactions are vital for maintaining mental and physical health. As I pointed out last year, nondrinkers show greater signs of depression than those who allow themselves to join the party.
The authors of the new paper are careful to note that even if drinking is associated with longer life, it can be dangerous: it can impair your memory severely and it can lead to nonlethal falls and other mishaps (like, say, cheating on your spouse in a drunken haze) that can screw up your life. There's also the dependency issue: if you become addicted to alcohol, you may spend a long time trying to get off the bottle.
That said, the new study provides the strongest evidence yet that moderate drinking is not only fun but good for you. So make mine a double.

Goldie and Weird MC |
"I heard the rumor too. I found it very amusing and very sad. I appreciate strong women. Women who have been through trying times and have pulled through and forged ahead. I look up to such women. In our industry, Weird MC is one of such women. In a male dominated industry, she managed to carve a niche for herself. I moved closer to her because I wanted to tap from her. I regret that our friendship was trivialized." Goldie addresses the lesbian rumour trailing her and Weird MC

I don't know about her sexual preference but I do know that Weird MC is one of the nicest, most humble people I've ever met. Very unassuming and down to earth.
Loves her!!!

Here is story and your advice is welcome.
Three days ago, I met the fiancée of my very close pal from Nigeria, she had come to the UK for a medical checkup. Seeing her face to face shocked me to the marrows as I realized she was someone I had known way back in my University and early working days in Naija. I would spare you the dirty details, but basically she was a slut.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
She was known for a lot of bed hopping in those days with married and single men alike. She even had various dirty escapades with expatriates from the company I worked for in naija back then, where someone had filmed her on a mobile phone having a foursome with three guys. This recording was passed round and saved on phones, computers and so on amongst other crazy ones by those expatriates of their escapades. It clearly shows her face and some distinctive futures on her skin.
Two weeks ago my friend had told me his fiancee was coming for a checkup and for some shopping here in the UK, he had told me a lot about her, that she was a virgin, honest, caring girl and a whole lot of stuff and desperately wanted me to meet her to boost his opinion as he knew nothing of her past which she has kept from him. Now as we met for me to send some stuff to Naija through her, it was obvious that she was equally shocked to see me.
Now my problem is this, do I tell my friend about who she really is and save him the heartache of finding out himself as the video recording are still in circulation even with some colleagues in various parts of the world. I suspect she might have come here for the "re-virgin" operation now gaining popularity in the UK as she claimed to have spent several thousand on the said "Check up". Or do I just keep quiet and pretend not to know anything. I am to play an important role in the wedding come mid next year.
Please I need constructive advice and even if you must yab try make it subtle , thanx.

A Lagos based pastor, Pastor Paul Adefarasin of House On The Rock, has banned all minors from going to his church next Sunday where he will be preaching on “raw sex”. Adefarasin was reported as saying men and women will attend separate services same day, because men and women cannot listen to the same message.
Raw sex??? I'm thinking about showing up there next Sunday...:-)

However the timely intervention of men of the Civil Defence Corps and fire fighters averted what could have been a major fire disaster. THEWILL gathered that the fire started as a result of a spark from an Air conditioner causing a billow of smoke which was first noticed as early as 8.30 am in the PDP conference Room.
A Passerby who noticed the smoke reportedly raised an alarm which fortunately attracted the attention of men of Civil Defence whose head office is located a few metres away from the PDP secretariat. The Civil Defence officials in conjunction with other fire fighters who were precept at the time of fire outbreak and fire fighters were able to contain the inferno before it could extend to adjoining offices.
When our correspondent visited the secretariat, it was discovered that the entire hall had been razed including the drapes, furniture and a stock of old documents belonging to the party usually kept there in. The fire incident occurred just when most national officials of the party were in Abia State to welcome the state governor, Chief Orji back into the party.
Meanwhile, both the Inspector General of Police, Ogbonna Onovo and the Commander General of Civil Defence Corps, Ade Abolurin had paid visits to the PDP national headquarters for on the spot assessments. But in a swift reaction, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Professor Ahmed Rufai Alkali has said the incident was just an accident and not sabotage. In a press statement, the publicity secretary noted that, "There was an outbreak of fire at the National Secretariat of our Party today, the fire started at the NWC meeting room on the second floor.
"From Preliminary reports, we learnt that the fire started from an Air conditioner in the hall. The quick intervention of the Fire Service personnel, Civil Defence Corps and staff of the Secretariat quickly contained the fire and stopped it from spreading. "We wish to commend all those who moved in QUICKLY and stopped what would have otherwise become a major disaster," the statement said.
