Despite sharing a common language with England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales (mostly), Canada, Australia, New Zealand, I find we suffer from a language barrier at times - apparently "streaming" is the practice of divvying up students in class according to ability in the great UK.

The interesting part I found was this:

"Girls were over-represented in the middle streams, boys in the bottom stream. Autumn-born children were over-represented in the top stream, summer-born in the middle and bottom streams."

Couple thoughts, women's IQ's tend to be more "average" than men's.  Men tend towards either end more often with 60% of your average  IQ individuals being women/female.  The lower and higher the IQ, the higher percentage it's going to be men with ~96% of your super geniuses *and* severe retards being male.

Meanwhile, your classes are aimed somewhat at the middle ground in general because that's what a class is: a means of getting everyone to get their paper together at the same time - not actual education.  A false sense of security that society's done its duty to its children.

So what happens to your boys who get bored in class because it doesn't move fast enough or isn't engaged enough?  They fail and fall behind.....

As for the summer and fall birthdays....well....maybe its because the fall birthdays get to be special right at the beginning of the year and so their confidence soars, while the summer birthdays never get to have a party in class so they just don't feel connected to being special or recognized....I dunno but its a thought.  I'm not talking those "FAKE" parties they have the week before school's out that celebrates EVERYONE'S birthdays either....we all know how fake those are.  I was at the party, I at the cupcakes, I was six once too.....my birthday's in the dead of winter - I'm a capricorn - it's just when mine falls on Friday the 13th that I have a totally kickass birthday it seems.
