Good luck with that....(Iranian Navy to Approach US Coasts)

Iran says it's going to deploy ships off the  US's Atlantic Coast since we've got ships off their coasts and can be a threat to the US like we are to them.

Good luck with that since:

  • Your time off our coasts would be extremely limited without replenishment.
  • You'd have to refuel and replenish in Venezuela or at any other of your allies nowhere near here.
  • Otherwise you'd need underway replenishment which you have no skill at just to maintain station (during which time you make a great target and are even easier to follow since you have no submarines capable of extended blue-water ops)
  • You don't have deep-water capability or experience - something the US navy excells at from hunting the Soviets for a half century and the Nazis and Japs well before that.
  • You don't even have a sizable navy that can defend its own battle group in a "blue water op."
  • You don't have air cover nor can you get it - something the US Navy is the world leader at
  • Our air cover extends well out to sea just from the USAF and ANG units.
  • Technologically you're several decades behind the US Navy (Skills wise you're nearly a century behind the US Navy)
  • You'd be targets for our fast attack subs to just toy with and hone their sonar skills while they finish their sound signatures of your propulsion units within the first 15 minutes of you showing up so we can tell who you are just by the sound of your screws and our "intelligence sources" have already told us what's on your ships so we know exactly what you're capable of and doing just by the sound of your propellers swishing through the water.
  • Our E2's and EA6's will have you countered with electronic and information warfare every single time you even go to say something on your radios.
  • Our intelligence ships and crypto techs will be listening on the airwaves as well and be just taking apart everything you transmit as soon as you transmit it.
  • And our subs will be tracking you well before you get here and follow you all the way here right out of your own ports from the time you cast off your first lines and tag team you all the way here.
  • And a bunch of other impossibilities you'd have to overcome.
  • Yah - not going to happen.
Sorry Marines - this one's not yours.  You can't even compete in this one.  This is ALL Navy.

Actually, I hope they do come over here just for fun.

The only thing Iran has going for it is I think Obama's on their side and he might order us to "understand" the Iranians and hold fire and make sure the first couple missiles they lob into the US are not just weapons malfunctions.

This is one of those tit-for-tat things that are so childish in the realm of international politics.

I thought Islam was a peaceful religion?  At least that's what I got told in my Islam in Society class in college - maybe someone should tell the Iranians that the Ayatollahs are reading the Koran wrong and therefore their national rhetoric is not in keeping with the teachings of Allah.

Well - Iran - here's some peace right back at ya......oh, and good luck with all that.  I bet you don't even show up, and if you do....well...it'll be interesting entertaining!
Sincerely - A US Navy Vet.

Sailor from Cornelius Oregon Killed in Action in Afghanistan

The Marines don't have medics. Every Marine unit has Navy with them as Hospital Corpsmen which puts a lot of Navy in the line of fire tending wounded in hostile situations.

We have a local hero here from Cornelius, Oregon, who's remains were returned after sacrificing his life for his country last Thursday in Afghanistan.  Currently his remains are at Dover AFB, but should be returning here in the near future.

For what its worth, I've been to Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.  There are a very large number of fresh graves there from those who've given their lives.  It makes you think and wonder truly of the cost of freedom.

Is freedom worth it?  Having personally pulled bodies to freedom who nearly died trying to reach it, I can say - yes, I feel it is.

At any rate, Ryley Gallinger-Long's family has spoken to the media a bit in this article.  My friend/acquaintance, "Q" who operates www.afghanistanwarheroes.com and www.iraqwarheroes.com and has personally attended every single military funeral here on the west coast will be covering the funeral in the upcoming days.

When I was 19 and headed into harm's way I thought of it just as a part of the job.  Now, as a father, I cannot imagine having to bury my son.  Nor as a husband can I imagine leaving behind a wife.

If you're interested in supporting keeping the memory alive of those who've died in the current conflicts, Q has a place you can donate on his site as his work is entirely supported by donations.  Or, if you wish to support the wounded warrior project you can click the link here.

Murphy's military police laws

  • Your badge won't stop bullets.
  • If it's stupid but works, it isn't stupid.
  • Don't look conspicuous - it antagonizes officers.
  • Never share a patrol car with anyone braver than you (especially BUDS drops who are waiting to return to BUDS but who are just passing time with the MP's)
  • Not wearing body armor attracts bullets and knives (And dishes, and psycho wives, and claw marks)
  • If your response goes well, you're at the wrong location
  • The watch commander or CDO or OOD will show up when you're doing something really stupid (or you'll do something really stupid BECAUSE they show up).
  • The time it takes to respond to an emergency is inversely proportional to the importance of the call.
  • The warrant you don't read is the one you'll serve at the wrong quarters.
  • No matter how you write it, the watch commander will want it changed.
  • If you charge in all alone, you'll be shot by your own officers.
  • The diversion you're ignoring is the actual crime.
  • The important things are always simple.
  • The simple things are always hard.
  • The easy ways are always blocked.
  • The short cuts are always under construction.
  • Anything you do can get you in trouble - including doing nothing.
  • When you've secured a crime scene, don't forget to tell the chain of command.
  • Using the siren and light to clear traffic - attracts traffic.
  • It only becomes a riot right after you show up.
  • If you take out the newest patrol car, you'll have an accident. (Boy can I vouch for this one...more than one time)
  • The thing you really need, will be left back at the MP Station.
  • Radios will fail as soon as you need back-up desperately (NO S****)
  • Flashlight batteries always die out, just when you really need light (NO F***ING KIDDING!)
  • Military working dogs attack anything that moves - including you (YES THEY DO!)
  • You'll find the suspect you want, when you're off-duty and unarmed (NO F***ING KIDDING!)
  • If you respond to more than your fair share of calls, you'll have more than your fair share of calls to respond to (NO F***ING KIDDING!)
  • The suspect will escape, just before you set up a good perimeter.
  • The dependent who screams loudly when you don't show up quickly, also screams loudly when you do.
  • The weight of the dead body you'll have to carry is proportional to the amount of stairs you'll have to climb.
  • Fatalities always occur at the end of shift - or when it rains and snows.
  • Your weapon was made by the lowest bidder.
  • Contrary to popular belief - flag officers don't get tickets.
  • You won't get called to a court martial - unless it's your day off.
  • Empty guns - aren't.
  • Your two minute "back-up" is always actually ten minutes away.
  • The alley you sprint down, is the wrong alley.
  • Tasting suspected drugs works - but only on TV or in the movies.
  • Suspects always hide in the last place you look.
  • Better to be judged by twelve, than carried by six (Not so sure about this one......I might disagree depending on the situation)
  • Professional criminals are predictable, but the world is full of amateurs.
  • Don't stand, if you can sit - don't sit, if you can lay down - if you can lay down, you might as well take a nap.(just don't get caught....the barges at night are a good place for this on "foot patrol")
  • Contrary to popular belief the CO *IS* an area effect weapon
