Regular Cartoons.....

I used to get the newspaper just for the comics section as a kid.  Now I get them online.  My favorite was Calvin and Hobbes.  I have the entire collection but I've read them all and so, if I want a collectors edition I would have to buy it in better shape.

Now, I'm pretty much anti-newspaper.  The Oregonian is known as the "fish wrapper" in some circles here.  I kind of got into it with a newspaper salesman on the phone with the Oregonian who was trying to get me to subscribe.  He asked why I didn't.  I told him because what's on the front cover and what I saw in the military are two different things.  He then told me they have conservative columnists inside as well.  I told him, when you start putting it on the cover and make the news more reflective of the truth so I don't have to go looking for it, then I'll think about it.  He got mad and hung up.

I used to enjoy National Geographic but they try to get you to buy into that global warming stuff with the photoshopped polar bears stranded on photoshopped ice cubes in the ocean.  Now I'll pick that up occasionally.

Readers Digest is still pretty good if only for the military humor sections.  The one I *do* buy is the Old Farmers Almanac.  Having lived on a farm for some time and being somewhat a do-it-yourselfer that one's got some good stuff in it and a lot of old fashioned remedies and cures I didn't know even existed.  Plus the weather charts are great if your'e traveling because their forecasts beat the local news a year out most of the time. Just a lot of forgotten wisdom in there and makes a great bathroom reader.

At any rate, now if you want the comics, you can go to http://www.arcamax.com/ to have the comics delivered to your inbox free without having to support a local communist newspaper.

Calvin and Hobbes is just a classic from growing up, Baby Blues used to be funny until I had kids and found out it was "nonfiction," now it's only sort-of-funny, still enjoy Garfield, and with Pickles, I can't wait to be the eccentric old man in the family.
