ELECTION RESULTS!!!

No official announcement has been made yet but newspapers in Nigeria are reporting the following...

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and the Action Congress (AC) have taken early leads in yesterday’s states houses of assembly and governorship elections conducted across the country in their various traditional strongholds.

The PDP has raced into an early lead across the South-South zone

In Plateau, Kwara, Jig-awa, Delta, Kogi, Kaduna and Anambra States, governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are leading at the exit polls

Air Commodore Jonah Jang (Plateau), Bukola Saraki (Kwara), Andy Uba (Anambra), Namadi Sambo (Kaduna), Sule Lamido (Jigawa) and Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta) and Ibrahim Idris (Kogi) are favoured to win yesterday's election in their respective states

ANPP is leading in key North-West states of Kano, Kebbi, Yobe and Zamfara

In Sokoto State, the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) are in early lead.

In the South-eastern states of Abia, Imo and Ebonyi, Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) is making a strong showing.

In Imo where confusion characterized the poll over the eligibiliy or otherwise of Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, Martin Agbaso of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and Ikedi Ohakim of the PPA appear to be running neck to neck.

PDP’s Dr. Andy Uba is leading in Anambra State.

The Action Congress, is leading the race in Adamawa State, the homestead of Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

AC is leading in Lagos State, Edo State and Ekiti State.

In Edo State, the PDP is running behind the AC, as former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Adams Oshiomhole takes early lead.

The Oyo race is between Abiola Ajimobi of ANPP and PDP's candidate, Adebayo Alao-Akala who is the incumbent deputy governor.

In Adamawa, it is likely that PDP candidate, Mu-rtala Nyako may emerge winner following the disqualification of his biggest challenger, Ibrahim Bapatel of AC.

Also in Kano, the PDP candidate, Ahmed Bichi is in close contest with ANPP's Ibrahim Shekarau who is the incumbent governor

Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State is the only confirmed winner of the elections so far.

In many of the states, the results collated at the Local Government levels have not arrived INEC offices in the state capital as at this morning. The final results of the governorship elections will be collated and announced by the resident electoral commissioners in the state. By this afternoon of making this post, the winners of the governorship and state legislative houses elections were yet to be officially announced. I'll keep you all posted.

Meanwhile, even though yeaterday's election was generally considered peaceful, no fewer than 41 persons were feared dead and about 250 people were also arrested over alleged electoral malpractices.
