Then we won't get to see wonderful winter scenes like this anymore! (it's called buy studded tires or chains people!) - Oh, this is in Seattle by the way - I think they drive about as bad in the snow as people from Portland.
Oh,
People from Oregon (at least Western Oregon) are TERRIBLE drivers in the snow. I don't know why but I'm comfortable driving on ice. Probably because I have studded tires. However, in December of '08 my wife and I got stranded in Spokane with our wonderful Sister and Brother in Law (her sister - my inlaws) due to the blizzard activity there. So we had to head home for Christmas - I was in between terms - and we made it onto 84 five minutes before the Oregon State Police closed it.
I hadn't been in a blizzard before - but I'll be perfectly fine if I never am again. That was AWFUL. I watched an old lady break down crying. We had blankets and a five gallon gas can for extra fuel just in case and emergency supplies - but - anyways - I found a truck that was about as comfortable as I was and we were doing about 25 mph or so - which felt like 150mph in those conditions because I could barely see the hood of my van - and did a "wingman formation" with his truck and my van and our lights I kept the freeway divider about 24 inches off my mirror and we ended up leading a caravan out of the Columbia Gorge.......Or coming down off the Columbia Plateau on 97 I think and it was covered in black ice and everyone was freaking out and doing like 20 mph and I was like - heck no....I got 200 miles or so to go at 20mph? Um no. Anyways - 50mph in 18" of snow and on black ice down into the snow.....WHEEEEE! The trick is to either go slow enough it's safe - or so fast you're going to die instantly - which equals safe.
