Okay - so now the Obama Administration is pressing for a ban on cell phones in cars.
lunacy here.
Where I have a problem is with the transportation guy saying "IIIIII don't want people doing xyz." Well who the heck are you to impose your will on this fine fine democratic republic? Your will and opinion is like a bum-hole. Just one in a sea of a few hundred million.
Okay - so here's where I'm confused.
If this is a federal issue - the states aren't supposed to enforce it. Only the feds can enforce it. Remember? Like immigration. Arizona isn't supposed to touch federal law. And they will sue if you enforce federal law....unless it's drugs like marijuana....then the feds will impose their will on you for failing to enforce federal law....
So......the FBI is going to track us using cell-phones in cars? So I need to watch for the Feds enforcing the federal law?
Meanwhile, however, the Obam-administration has said on issues like the mosque near ground zero "It's a local issue and should be decided locally" yet the mosque affects all of us.
So I guess where I'd like clarification is what is a local issue and what is a federal issue and if the feds are supposed to enforce federal rules how they plan on doing it. Aren't we capable of governing ourselves? I believe we are. We've been doing it for 234 years - quite successfully too!
Okay and let me go with this - I'm an ex-police officer. I used to be able to navigate some SUPER tight streets safely at speeds that would make you pee your pants and in the dark and in the rain while talking on a radio held in one hand, steering with the other, and keeping just a second off another guys' bumper or even going head to head with someone head on in the dark setting up for a road block while relaying instructions and watching for public safety and directing other officers where to go for a setup and keeping an eye on the driver and assessing what was going on in the car I was following/engaging while having to communicate what was going on with exactness..
But I can't talk on a cell phone. Does this mean police won't be able to use radios then? Can truckers not use CB's? Or do I qualify to use a cell phone because of my police background? What about firefighters - can they talk on the radio? Ambulances - can they talk on phones or the radio? \Will radios become illegal?
These are just my thoughts.
